Economic Stimulus Rebates
General Information

From May through July, the U.S. Treasury will be sending economic stimulus "rebates" to over 130 million families across the country. These rebates are an attempt to stimulate our economy by putting additional money in the hands of American consumers. The following is basic information about the program. If you need additional details, we encourage you to use the resources listed at the bottom of this page.

Eligibility: Most people who file a 2007 tax return will qualify for one of these rebates. Some people who wouldn't ordinarily have to file a return will qualify too. Here are the basics:

Amounts: Like most things that involve the government, figuring out how much you will receive is a little complicated. Single-filing recipients can expect to get between $300 and $600. People who filed a joint tax return can expect between $600 and $1,200. If you have a qualifying child (who is eligible for a Child Tax Credit and has a valid SSN), you can expect $300 for each child.

Another important thing to know is that there is a range of income to qualify for the full rebate. In addition to the minimum of $3,000 in qualifying income, if you make more than $80,000 (as a single filer) or $160,000 (as a married filer), your rebate will be reduced.

Schedule: The schedule to receive your rebate payment depends on how you file your tax return. If you filed using direct deposit, you'll get your payment directly into your bank account. If you didn't use direct deposit, a check will be mailed to you. Both electronic payments and paper checks will be distributed on a staggered schedule, based on the last two digits of your Social Security Number:
