SECOND AREA SCHOOL GETS BACKED BY BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY

Blalock Elementary chosen for DriveTime’s SchoolTime program

DriveTime, the largest integrated used car sales and finance company in the country serving customers with less than perfect credit, today announced that it has chosen Blalock Elementary to participate in the company’s SchoolTime program. Stone Mill Elementary has benefited from the program for two years.

SchoolTime began in 2004 as a way for DriveTime employees to become more involved in their communities. SchoolTime volunteers enter into long-term partnerships with at least one school in their area and commit to donating time and resources to the school throughout the year. SchoolTime schools must meet specific criteria in order to qualify including diverse demographics, a large percentage of English-as-a-Second language students, and 80% or more of the students qualify for the federal free lunch program.

“We are thrilled to partner with Blalock Elementary,” says Kathie Driscoll, SchoolTime Program Director. “After interviewing several qualified schools, the energy and enthusiasm of the principal and staff was what convinced us that this school was a perfect match.”

Now that SchoolTime has chosen a second Atlanta school, DriveTime volunteers will work with the administrators, teachers and parents to determine immediate needs. In other states, SchoolTime has helped secure new computers, hosted Thanksgiving dinners, purchased books for students, and participated in school supply drives.

“In Atlanta, the planning has already begun,” Driscoll says. “SchoolTime will volunteer at the school’s Field Day and volunteers are putting together an event to get parents more involved in the PTA – this is already shaping up to be a great year.”
