DriveTime and Rebuilding Together partnered with two local elementary schools last week to provide over 8,000 gallons of paint to homeowners in South Phoenix and Mesa. The events were a great success, providing exterior paint to over 375 families to help beautify local neighborhoods, and to give homeowners a new sense of pride in their homes. The paint was available to low income homeowners, with a maximum of 20 gallons per household. All of the paint was recycled or re-manufactured and filtered from donations.
The events were held on Thursday, April 7th and Saturday April 9th. Thursday's give-away was located at Lincoln Elementary. This location gave away in excess of 1,500 gallons of paint to over 75 families. Saturday's paint give-away was held at Rose Linda Elementary. The volunteers at this location were able to give away over 6,500 gallons of paint to almost 300 families.
"We have been successfully partnering with Rose Linda and Lincoln Elementary for over a year now," said Jon Ehlinger, General Counsel and VP/Public Relations. We feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Rose Linda and Lincoln in assisting their local communities with projects like these free paint giveaways."
DriveTime is also being recognized as a winner of the 2005 Arizona Education Association Partners in Education Award. This award is presented to community members whose time, talents, activism or fundraising created academic opportunities for a school or offered special support to its educators and students. DriveTime will be honored for their support of local schools during the Salute to Excellence dinner at the Mesa Convention Center on Friday, April 29th.
